Too many nectarines to eat all at once due to a nice CSA pick-up means it was time to dehydrate lots of nectarines. I had roughly 15 pounds of nectarines that I dehydrated which filled up all nine trays of my dehydrator.
Making Dried Nectarines
Ingredients:
- Fresh Nectarines, Sliced
Method:
- Thoroughly wash your nectarines. Remove any spoiled parts. Slice in half and remove pit. Slice each half into 6 to 10 pieces. (I sliced each half into around 10 pieces as I wanted the dried pieces to be a little less chewy.)
- Arrange the pieces on your dehydrator trays in a single layer.
- Dry at 135 degrees for 12 to 18 hours depending on the thickness of your pieces and the humidity level in your area.
- Allow to cool and store in an airtight container.
Ideas for use:
- Use in cereals, trail mixes, or just as a snack.
- You can even rehydrate in milk over night and use in smoothies. (Idea from The Beginner’s Guide to Making and Using Dried Foods by Teresa Marrone.)
