Father’s Day 2014

Father's Day 2014 Reality

I love watching the interaction between D and Munchkin. They love to goof around with each other, but they also have intense, deep conversations. The fact that they can easily flow between the two just makes me smile. When Munchkin is having a bad day, Daddy can usually (if not always) get her to smile despite her best efforts not to smile. As she told me just the other day, she needs the special attention and understanding that only Daddy can provide.

Yesterday, I was thankful that Daddy was home with us, and that we could spend the day relaxing together. After church, we enjoyed a simple meal for lunch. A little later in the day, Daddy took Munchkin for her first driving lesson with a manual transmission – Daddy’s truck. We live in the perfect location for this as we have a dry riverbed very close which provides a wonderful place – free of trees, bushes, and others – to learn to drive. Both D and I believe that it’s important that she knows how to drive a manual as well as an automatic transmission as we never know which vehicle she may need to drive. (Her truck, that still has a long way to go before it’s ready to be driven, is an automatic.)

Once they got back, they headed out to take care of the horses while I made supper. I wanted to use up some of the great produce that we had gotten from our 2 different CSA pick-ups this week. (We’re trying out a new one that allows for a little more variety plus various add-ons in addition to the one that we’ve been using for the last few months.) I ended up making roasted chicken breasts with a mushroom gravy, hashbrown style potatoes, and green beans. For dessert, I made a peach crisp/cobbler. Yum!

We wrapped up the day by watching The Book Thief which is set in Nazi Germany. It was an interesting movie and one that I would recommend for those who are interested in that time period. Given the topics covered, it was a sad movie with glimmers of hope throughout it.

Overall, it was a nice, relaxing Father’s Day which is exactly what Daddy needed after a long, 6-day work week.
