I believe very strongly that we should be praying for our spouses each day – not to change them, but rather to lift them up. Our spouses are bombarded with temptations and hardships every day. They can’t walk down the street, read a magazine, look online, or watch tv without temptation being thrown in their faces. They are under a lot of pressure to provide for their families, be good husbands, be good fathers, be good sons…. As a wife, I want to do everything in my power to help my husband succeed in life and in our marriage.
When I saw that Ashley Pichea was hosting her 31 Days to Pray for Your Spouse Challenge starting January 1st, I signed up and purchased the book. At the time, the 66-page Kindle edition of 31 Days to Build a Better Spouse (affiliate link) was available for only $4.99. While you don’t absolutely need the book to participate in the challenge, I thought it would be useful to have to read through on my own. Ashley sends out an email each day with the a scripture passage and a prayer that corresponds to the daily “devotional” in the book.
Each day has a specific theme. In the book, you will read a lesson with scripture passage (think short devotional based upon building up your spouse in a specific way) that concludes with a prayer. The book has a spot where you can tweet or post a facebook message, if desired. The challenges that you received via email have the prayer in a beautiful graphic that you can print out as a reminder to pray. You could add them to a journal or even post them somewhere for a constant reminder to lift your spouse up in prayer.
What I really like about both the book and the challenge is the prayers are about lifting our spouses up and helping them become the man that the Lord wants him to be. It’s not all about us and what we want. The focus is on the Lord and His will for our spouse’s life. I love that! It’s amazing how our attitude changes when the focus shifts from us to our spouse and from our will to the Lord’s will.
If you’re looking for a way to lift your spouse up and want help in covering him in prayer each day, I encourage you to take the 31 Days to Build a Better Spouse challenge.
Note: This is not a sponsored review. I purchased the book and decided to write about it because I felt it was something that I wanted to share with others.
