It’s no secret that D has had a lot of back issues over the past few years – basically since his last deployment. The 2 back surgeries took their toll, but at least he’s doing better. The pain is still there, but it’s generally on a decent level. (The pain will, most likely, never go away completely. It’s the nature of the beast so to speak.) He’s still working on getting back into form to be able to have better endurance and strength. His muscles just aren’t what they were prior to the surgeries. Building them back up takes time and patience which is hard for an active Marine. lol! Yet, we manage to get things done. When he’s wiped out, I just do what needs to be done. It’s how we work.
Unfortunately, this routine was broken last week when I woke up with horrible back pain. When I went to bed, I was fine, but when I woke up, I could hardly move. It was awful. At first, I thought I had just slept wrong, and it was pinched nerve or something. I quickly found out that wasn’t the case as it didn’t get better. Instead, it got worse. The muscles on my back were swollen and tight. Moving, walking, standing, sitting… theses things were all a chore. I soon found myself just doing the basics, but mainly, I found myself in bed. Ugh!
Finally, a week later, things are starting to settle down. I’m still not sure what happened, but I do know that having the back issues knocked me out of commission. It was difficult to get anything done. Yes, I did some cooking, but I was completely spent by the time I finished the meal. I’m not sure how D accomplished anything when his back pain was at its worst. No wonder he experienced brain fog at times. That pain just takes over and doesn’t let go. The only thing, to me, that was worse than back pain is migraines. Thankfully, the back issues did not trigger a migraine for me. That would have been really bad.
D and I rely on each other to step up and help the other person out whenever needed. When we’re both having issues (last week was a long week for him, so his back pain was flaring up), it makes it rather difficult. I am thankful that he is willing to help out with meals when I’m down. I’m also thankful that Munchkin was willing go up and down the stairs to bring me things so I didn’t have to make that painful trek. I’m looking forward to having a healthy back again, and I’m even more appreciative of how my hubby deals with the pain and still gets things done.
Very glad that you are feeling better. I am going to be investing in a heating pad because my dh has back issues from a car wreck way back in 2001. I’m also interested in the cream you have photographed here. Where do you find it?
I’ve very rarely had back issues but not long ago I did- and it lasted about a week. I can sympathize with you!
Blossom recently posted..$53 for a week- for 4
The cream was from Walmart. They have it at most drug stores as well. I like that it’s natural and doesn’t have a horrible smell. lol! We have both heating pads and the clay cooling pads. We don’t use the electric heating pads; they’re the ones that you put in the microwave to heat up as we’ve found they work better. Switching between heat and cold makes a difference.
