Homemade Natural Lip Balm and Body Scrub

Munchkin is having fun with her natural health class. This week, she’s learning about natural skin care products. As she’s looking at products to avoid (and why), she started to get more excited about making her own skin care products with natural ingredients.

The first thing on her “to do” list was cleaning out some old lip balm containers as she was going to be making her own lip balm. The funny thing was that cleaning out the lip balm containers was a longer process than actually making the lip balm. She was pretty proud of the end result. She’s also happy that what she’s putting on her lips is completely healthy. After looking over some of our essential oils, she ended up going with peppermint lip balm. It really smells good, and according to Munchkin, it makes your lips tingle just a bit – in a good way.

Next, she whipped up a batch of brown sugar body scrub. It was a quick, easy process, and the end result smells great. She looks forward to using it.

Making White Chocolate Bath Melts

She tackled white chocolate bath melts next. For these, she needed to use a double boiler – a first for her. I was around, but she was doing the projects pretty much on her own. It was a proud mama moment as she took charge and made her products. The melts needed to set up, so those were set aside and another project tackled.

Making Peppermint Foot Bars

While waiting for the white chocolate bath melts to come together, she made some peppermint foot bars. For these, we decided it would be fun to use cute candy molds to create various shapes instead of just doing bars. Because the house is warm, those are still setting up. They should be solid and ready to pop out of the molds tomorrow.

After she completed the projects, you could see the sense of accomplishment in her face. She now had a few skin care products that she knew were good for her body, and that she had made herself. The class has taken on a new meaning for her, and she’s even more excited to see what new projects she’ll be conquering next.
