Working on Growing Old Together

Growing Old Together

It’s hard to believe 15 years have passed since D and I said “I do”.

Time has passed. We’ve gotten older. We were young back then. Yes, we were young, but we had already faced hardship and loss together before we exchanged our rings. We didn’t look at marriage or life with rose colored glasses, but we did have hope, faith, and love. We would build our marriage on those building blocks. We would make mistakes along the way, but we would make them together and learn as we went along. We decided that we would love each other forever until death did we part.

The Marine Corps has taken a toll on D’s body, but the Corps has also helped strengthen our marriage in different ways. He’s my Marine, and I’ll always be proud of him. I always knew that he would be a Marine – from the moment I met him. It was one of his dreams, his goals. For whatever the reason, even though I knew that we’d one day be married, I had not pictured myself as a military wife. Yet, here I am, many years later proudly standing by his side – a Marine wife.

Our love has grown deeper as the years have gone by. We’ve had some wonderful times like the birth of our sweet girl, but we’ve also suffered losses (like multiple miscarriages), dealt with health issues including multiple surgeries, gone through deployments and military related separations… There will without a doubt be more difficulties ahead as that is part of life, but we’ll weather the storms together – praising the Lord in both good times and bad. We’ll put our faith in the Lord and trust Him to guide us in this journey called life.

I am thankful, ever so thankful, that the Lord brought D into my life. I look forward to the adventures that are ahead of us. Happy Anniversary, my love. I pray that the Lord blesses us with many, many more years together. I’m happy to grow old with you.
