Review: Editor In Chief B1

Editor In Chief B1 Grades 6-8 Editor in Chief by Critical Thinking Press is an excellent resource to help students become better writers and self editors.  Students learn how to identify and correct grammatical errors, writing mechanics errors, and usage errors.  They have to really think while they are reading the short stories as not all errors jump up from the page. We received the B1 level of Editor in Chief which is geared towards students in grades 6-8.  For the first few stories, I walked through the process with Munchkin.  Grammar and writing are not her strongest subjects, so…

Review: Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon

Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon Charles Spurgeon is known for his no-nonsense style devotions. His devotionals are thought-provoking and fluff-free.  As a teen, I was given the older Morning & Evening devotional by Spurgeon.  I used it, but I don’t think that I truly appreciated all that was being said in the devotionals. Sabbath: The Ancient Practices By Dan Allender, Phyllis Tickle As a family, we’ve been studying more about Biblical holidays including the Sabbath. My main problem with the book is that is wasn’t grounded in scripture; it was mainly based upon the author’s opinion. While I agreed with some of what was written, I would have…

Project 365 – #009 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; Philippians 4:6 This plaque hangs next to my front door.  It’s in a very visible location as a constant reminder that I need to make sure that I am praying and not worrying.  The Lord is in control.  In that, I can take comfort. This post is part of 365 Project.

Coke Fountain

Project 365 – #008 Knowing that D collects Coke memorabilia, my sister sent this great Coke fountain to D for his birthday.  The water bubbles out over the ice cubes while a small light illuminates the ice cubes and makes them glow.  It’s a fun addition to our Coke collection.  One day, we hope to be able to have an area in our house (after D retires and we’re permanently located somewhere) where we can display and use the large collection that we’ve put together over the years.  It would be fun to have an old diner motif.  We’ll just…
