Magdalena: Through Her Eyes

Posted in Reviews

MagdalenaHave you ever wondered what it would have been like to sit at Jesus’ feet and hear him teaching?  What about experiencing his physical healing touch?  What would it have been like to be a female follower of Jesus?  Due to the culture, the experience of a male follower and female follower would have been quite different.

Mary Magdalene wasn’t just any woman.  She was a woman possessed by evil spirits who was freed from her bondage by Jesus.  From that day forward, she became a follower of Jesus.  She embraced the new life that she had been given and shared the great news of the Messiah.  She lived her life with purpose.

Magdalena is meant to be used as an outreach ministry.  It is focused on showing women that they are precious and important in the Lord’s eyes.  Campus Crusade for Christ has put together a free resource packet to go with the dvd and study guide which will help churches and small groups (or even home groups) host a special movie event. The study guide can help viewers dig deeper into the movie.

Mary sits down with friends as she tells her story as a follower of Christ.  She begins “at the beginning” as that is ultimately where the full story begins – when God created the earth and when sin entered the world.  Without that, the rest of the story would not be necessary.  We follow Mary through beginning of time all the way to when Jesus transcended up to heaven after his resurrection.  Mary concludes her story by speaking of the value of women and how we need to confess our sins and follow Jesus.  Through his precious love and sacrifice, we are saved and blessed with eternal life.

Whether you want to use this dvd in a large church, small group, or just as a family, it’s sure to be a blessing and wonderful reminder of Jesus’ love and sacrifice.

  7. I would probably use it in our home. We might offer it for our small group, but probably not at church (unless they would like to use an excerpt during the service). My husband might use it in his class at college that he teaches. He’s used other movies to help cement a point for them.
