True Treasures

True TreasuresIt’s hard to believe that TEACH magazine (now called Eternal Encouragement) has been mentoring women – helping them be a better homemaker, homeschool mom, parent, wife… – for 10 years.  Because not all women have someone in their lives to help guide them, in a Biblical manner, through the trials and triumphs of parenting and marriage, TEACH has been a valuable resource for many, many women over the years – myself included.

I’ve been reading TEACH magazine for years.  Usually, I like hold on to these magazines, but frequent moves often lend themselves to the need for purging magazines.  The good news is that I’m able to bless others with the magazines.  The bad news is that I have to let go of a great source of encouragement.

Imagine my surprise and excitement when a package from TEACH arrived at my house.  Like a kid at Christmas, I opened the package a found a beautiful book called True Treasures.  Whoohoo!  The ladies over at TEACH put together a book that contains their best articles from the past 10 years.  Knowing that we were going to be heading out camping, I suppressed the urge to dig into the book right then.

True Treasures LayoutsWhen I finally was able to start reading, I felt like I was sitting down with old friends as I read the different articles.  I didn’t want to put down the book, but since this was a book about being the best wife and mom that I could be, it would have been a bit hypocritical if I completely ignored my family while reading the book in one sitting. lol!

Don’t worry. Each article only take up a 2-page spread (or less), so you can sneak in reading here and there.  (The bathroom always makes a good place to at least read one article of encouragement.)  On a side note, I do have a minor complaint about the 2-page layout. Part of the header title gets lost in fold of the book.  Like I said, it’s a minor complaint, but one that I felt I should mention.

It really is important to make sure that you don’t ignore your family when you get drawn into the book.  Obviously, if you have littles, this will not be an issue as they tend not to let you ignore them for long.  **grin**  It’s only when you have older kids that you can find yourself wanting to put aside some of your household duties to just sit, read, and be refreshed.  While it’s good to seek encouragement and help in your daily walk, it’s not so good to neglect your household and family to do so.  (Talking from past experience here as I know how easy it is to get caught up in reading only to find supper time is here before you know it.  Ooops!)

One of the nice things about True Treasures is that it is broken down into 6 chapters based on different areas of your life:

  • Jewels That Make the Heart Sparkle
  • Marriages of Solid Gold
  • Parenting Pearls: Practical and Priceless
  • Homemaking That Dazzles Like Diamonds
  • Homeschooling Nuggets of Wisdom
  • Godly Living That Glitters

The articles themselves are then indexed by both author and by title.  This means that you can find articles to meet your needs at any given time.  If you’re having one of those homeschooling days (you know the ones I’m talking about), you can just flip to the chapter on homechooling, or you can turn to the back of the book and look for specific homeschooling topics in the index.  Do you have a favorite author that always seems to know just what to say to lift you up?  Check out the author index and head on over to her articles.

The collection of articles in True Treasures are sure to help you in your walk to become the woman the God intends for you to be.  Having the wide range of articles penned by various God-fearing women in one book is definitely a treasure worth owning.
