Care for Creation
by Christy Baldwin
“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” ~ “Go Green” These are terms that we hear in the media all of the time. Adults and kids alike are bombarded with eco-friendly products and pleas to take care of the planet. What exactly does all of this mean for a Christian?
In Care for Creation, Christy Baldwin teaches kids how the Bible teaches us to take care of God’s creation. The story of taking care of our planet is interwoven with scripture and beautiful illustrations.
While the planet should never be worshiped or put above man, man was given dominion over the earth which includes taking care of it. The story explains different ways children can help take care of the earth. It also goes into details about what will happen if we don’t take care of the planet. The book doesn’t go into extreme environmental views. Instead, it focuses on practical aspect such as not being able to see the beauty of the stars due to smog or not being able to swim in bodies of water due to pollution.
The book concludes with suggested activities and a discussion guide. Christy Baldwin has taken on a difficult topic and handled it in a manner that is consistent with Biblical teaching and easy for children to understand. The colorful, kid-friendly illustrations will help children visualize the concepts being taught in the book.
