The New School Year Begins

Posted in Homeschooling

School Year BeginsI would love to say that the week off last week was restful, relaxing…, but it wasn’t.  It was not a bad week, but it wasn’t a restful time of planning that I had originally expected. lol!  I’ll explain (and show) why later this week.  I was able to put together most of the plans for Munchkin’s new school year over the weekend.

For now, this is the plan for her school year:

  • Science: finish up Apologia Marine Science, Chemistry or Advance Biology: The Human Body
  • Math: Teaching Textbooks Geometry
  • Bible: Grapevine Studies New Testament Overview
  • History: U.S. Government using lapbooks, living books, videos, internet resources, games, copywork
  • Language Arts: Winston Grammar, Write with the Best, Roots & Fruits
  • Fine Arts: Art Appreciation using Picturing America and online resources, finish up Composer Study
  • Technology: Typing, learning word processing programs
  • Home Economics: Sewing, Cooking

Obviously, since I’m on the TOS Homeschool Crew again this year, this is all subject to change to some degree.  We were really blessed with some great curriculum and other items last year, so I’m sure that this year will hold some real gems for us.  The Lord really provides what we need even when we don’t always know we need it.  **grin**

One big change this year is that I typed up paperwork that shows Munchkin what is expected of her to achieve a certain grade in each class.  She loves check lists, so this will help her to know up front what she needs to do to get the grade she desires.  Slowly, she’s becoming a more and more independent learner.  I miss the interaction, but I love watching her grow and mature.

Munchkin is a little hesitant about some of the changes and new expectations that are being placed on her, but I know that she’ll get use to it and do well.  For now, she’s glad to be done for the day and out playing with her friends.  We picked up an inexpensive portable mister to help keep the kids cool while they play.

While Munchkin plays, I need to get caught up on some housework.  She’s already done her chores, so I need to get mine done!

You are one busy lady!!! I know that one day she will step back & say “wow, mom…thank you for giving me YOUR ALL”! Good luck with the new school year, I’ll be anxious to hear how everyone does! God Bless 🙂
