Thankful Thursday: Delicious Gluten Free Food

Posted in Christian Life, Family, and Gluten Free

Thankful Thursday

Today, as I was sitting here thinking about what to write for my Thankful Thursday post, I realized that I wanted to write about food.  I’ve been working with, eating, and writing about food so much lately that it just makes sense.

Prior to going gluten free, we took eating for granted.  We could eat whatever we wanted and not have to worry about it.  I felt bad for those that had food allergies, but I hadn’t experienced it for myself.  I didn’t really understand that world.  After going gluten free, the reality sank in that our eating would never be the same.

At first, I didn’t know what we would do.  What were we going to eat?  Would everything taste bland?  Would we have to give up our favorite foods?  Would we have to eat horrible tasting food if we wanted to have substitutes for our normal foods?  Could we afford all of this?  So many questions were running through my head, and at that time, I didn’t really have the answers.  I knew what we needed to do, but I didn’t know how to start this new journey.

Over time, things became easier as I began to understand the process of cooking gluten free.  I learned which foods were naturally gluten free.  I learned that we could have full flavor foods.  I also realized that I could make many foods just as good as (if not better than) their gluten containing counterparts.

Being gluten free changed how my daughter and husband felt.  They were healthier, but I didn’t want that to mean that they ate less than satisfying food.  I learned to bake all over again to be able to give them good gluten free baked goods.  The longer I am doing this the more I am learning.  Plus, there are many more resources available today than there were even a few years ago.

I am grateful that there are big name companies that are starting to produce gluten free lines of food.  I am grateful that the Lord provided us with so many options that are naturally gluten free.  I am grateful for those who went before us to help pave the way for an easier time of being gluten free.

Thank you Lord for providing us with so many delicious foods to eat.  Thank you for giving us such variety in your creation.

  2. I think that is so cool that you have many ways to provide great, healthier foods for your family. I know of at least one restaurant that offers gluten free meals 🙂

Thank you for sharing your grateful heart with us.

    Blessings to you and yours!
