Ornament Making Party

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Thoughts

Munchkin had decided that she wanted to invite her friends over for an ornament making party. She had all these grand plans in her head, but things didn’t go exactly as planned…

The original date for the party fell through, so she decided to invite her friends over on Friday afternoon. Since it was nice out, she set up all of the supplies outside and headed off to gather up her friends from the neighborhood. One friend wasn’t home yet, so they chose to start without her. (She’s not in the picture as she came over after the picture was taken.)

While they worked on their ornament crafts, I baked up some cookies for them. Unfortunately for Munchkin, they weren’t all that interested in making crafts, and they ended up spending very little time with the ornaments that she had planned. They just wanted to play.

After everyone left, I helped Munchkin get things cleaned up, and we talked. Once we were back inside, she just gave me a big hug and cried. Poor thing was so disappointed. I completely understood as that scenario has happened to me before. It is very disappointing when you put a lot of time and effort into something, and it doesn’t go as planned.

We spent the rest of the afternoon (until Daddy got home) cuddled in bed talking and watching a Christmas movie.  It was a rough afternoon for Munchkin, but it was also a good learning opportunity.  As a parent, it’s hard to watch your child deal with difficult situations and sometimes get hurt, but it’s part of growing up.  I just try to sooth the hurts, help her sort through her feelings, and guide her in the Christ-like way of handling those situations.

Once Daddy got home, we ate supper and headed over to her dress rehearsal for the Christmas play on Sunday.  Thankfully, her spirits had lifted by that point, and she put her all into the play.  She takes great joy in being an angel with a speaking part. **grin**

Oh bless her little heart! Sorry to hear it did not work out as she had planned. Nice that you were able to comfort her though. I know we have had to go through similar things in our home with our children also. Hopefully she is feeling better now! Being An Angel sounds like a great way to end such a day !~Blessings and Merry Christmas Heather

I can totally relate, too. I had planned a cookie exchange back the 2nd week of the month. I had all these people that said they wanted to come from our church but ended up having 3, but it was a lot of fun anyways. We had a great time fellowshipping. 😀
