Homeschool Group Christmas Party

Posted in Holidays, and Homeschooling

Yesterday, we held our homeschool group’s first annual Christmas party.  When I woke up, I honestly didn’t believe that we’d be going as I’m still not feeling well, but Munchkin really wanted to be able to go.  The main problem was that there was going to be a gift exchange for the kids.  I didn’t want Munchkin to be left out because she didn’t bring a gift.  I quickly dug into my “gift bin” and realized that it was almost empty and that I need to update it to have some gifts for Munchkin’s age group.  Thankfully, I was able to find something that would work.

The party was held one street over, so we were able to just walk over.  We heard lots of laughter as we approached the building.  I had forgotten that someone was able to rent a bouncy house for our group for free.  The kids were having a blast.  Munchkin looked at me.  I nodded.  She was off…

Once everyone arrived, we split the kids up into 2 groups according to their ages.  The younger kids stayed outside on the bouncy house while the older kids did their craft.  Upon completion of their craft, the older kids made their way back outside for some more fun.  Then, the younger kids had their turn.  They all had a blast.

The next activity on the agenda was the gift exchange.  This time, the kids were broken into 3 groups based upon their ages.  The appropriate gifts were given to each group.  The kids then were given numbers as to the order in which they would pick their gifts.  As soon as Munchkin received her number, I saw her face light up. She had been given number 1.  Since some of the girls had already shared what they had brought as their gifts, Munchkin knew exactly which present she wanted as it contained a Webkinz.

The gift exchange was followed by food and then more play time.  I remembered that I had sacks for sack races at home, so I went home and grabbed them.  It was a hoot watching the kids do their own races.  After the sack races, they decided to use the sacks as bands so they could do 3 legged races.

I was a delightful morning filled with fun and fellowship.  We’re blessed to have this group of fellow homeschoolers here on base.  Many of them live on our street or the street right behind us.  We have much to be thankful for this year.
