Draw and Write Through History Tour

Posted in Homeschooling, and Reviews

Take an exciting journey through time as you draw and write your way through history!

Draw and Write Through History books are:

  • Chronological, including Biblical history.
  • Aimed at ages 8+, but adaptable for younger students.
  • Student friendly!

Starting with Creation, Draw and Write Through History books teach children how to draw things from history. Each drawing is broken down into steps, and each step is done in color. After each section there is a page of cursive handwriting copywork about that time period.

An excellent supplement to ANY history curriculum! Whether you use the classical, Charlotte Mason, or traditional text-book method, your students will retain more of what they have learned by drawing and writing about each time period.

I wasn’t familiar with Write and Draw Through History by Carylee Gressman before this tour began.  Once I looked at the website, I was really excited to get the opportunity to review this book.  It looked like something that Munchkin would really enjoy.

When our Write and Draw Through History: Creation to Jonah arrived, I knew that this was going to be a great book for us.  Munchkin is enjoying learning to draw pictures that tie into what we are studying.  Since we have already gone through some of the events at the beginning of the book (Creation, Noah’s Ark/Ice Age, The Tower of Babel), I allowed Munchkin to just draw the pictures for the first few lessons.  She said that the lessons were easy to understand and not too detailed to make it difficult to follow.

Write and Draw Through History easily fits into our current curriculum and provides an additional dimension to our studies.  I also appreciate the cursive practice that Munchkin receives after the drawing sessions.

I created some simple notebooking pages to go along with this book.  Since we are currently studying about Joseph and Egypt, Munchkin drew a pyramid and the Sphinx to go along with the lesson.  She then did the cursive copywork to go along with the unit.

Other time periods/topics covered in Draw and Write Through History: Creation to Jonah include China (c. 2690-2000 B.C.), Joseph/Moses (c. 1914-1270 B.C.), Trojan Horse/David (c. 1250-1055 B.C.), and Jonah (c. 776-760 B.C.)

Draw and Write Through History: Creation to Jonah is available for purchase for $12.00.  You can see a sample of an art lesson here.

This review is part of the MamaBuzz Blog Tour.  I received a copy of the book from CPR Publishing to do this review.  No other compensation was received.  All opinions are my own.
