Our Week in Review

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Thoughts

Munchkin had a wonderful time at VBS (vacation Bible school) this week. Friday, they wrapped up the week with a presentation for the parents, so we could see all of the songs that they learned. Each age group of kids performed on different song on stage. It’s always fun to watch. I taped Munchkin’s performance for Daddy, so he’ll be able to see it when he gets home.

We continued with schooling this week in the afternoons. In Bible, we’re talking about Jesus as the Messiah and John the Baptist. Munchkin continues with her 2 math programs (Teaching Textbooks pre-Algebra and Horizons math). She’s doing well with that even though she keeps telling me how much she really dislikes fractions and long division. I can’t say that I blame her. On an odd note, she has no problems with square roots??? We’re currently learning about the human body and making a lapbook to go along with our studies.

After formal schooling is done for the day, we’ve been doing lots and lots of reading. I pretty much read to her for most of the late afternoon/evening as we’ve really been enjoying our books. After she does her devotions in the evening, she has been working her way through the Narnia series on her own. Needless to say, she’s having no problems completing the requirements for the summer reading program at the library. She’s already maxed out on the number of minutes to be read.

We’ve been dealing with lots of smoke from the wildfires that are south of us, so we have not been spending time outside this week. It will be nice when the smoke clears up, so we can get back outside. Munchkin misses being in the pool.

Instilling the love for reading in your children is so very important. Sounds like you’ve done well there. I have always loved to read and my children do also. Some of my grands don’t like reading, though.
