The morning begins with me getting up and doing my devotions. It helps me start my day out on the right foot. Once Munchkin gets up, we eat breakfast. After breakfast, our school day begins.
We don’t always have our lessons in the same location. Some days, we stay in bed and do the work. Other days, we head out to the living room and find a comfortable chair. My newest help is a rolling cart where I’m able to keep all our homeschooling items organized. It’s nice to be able to just roll it from room to room.
Our day begins with prayer and our Bible lessons. We’re back to our core curriculum of Weaver after our break doing the Little House Unit Study. Since the history and science lessons stem from what we study in the Bible, we do those next. Currently, we are learning about Ancient Rome and doing a lapbook to go along with our studies. Our vocabulary and writing tie right in with these lessons.
Next, Munchkin usually works on her pre-algebra math lesson. After that, we will either have a spelling or grammar lesson (these are on different days). She follows this with her other math lesson. (Yes, she’s currently working on 2 different math books as she really wanted to start her pre-algebra class.) She finishes her day with either a typing lesson or a Spanish lesson (on the computer). We’re working on making her more responsible for her own work, so she has her own assignment sheet. It is her responsibility to make sure that she completes the assignments for the day/week.
Right now, I have her reading 1 book a week and writing a brief book report. I have a form that she fills out. Eventually, we’ll move to her actually writing the report without a form. For now, it’s teaching her what information needs to go in a book report.
Her afternoons are free for exploration. Right now, she’s enjoying using a new microscope that Grandpa sent her way. She also enjoys exploring outside and watching the birds. Then, there is good old fashioned having fun and playing.
That’s our day at a glance…
Good morning! Couldn’t resist the “Marine Corps” part so I had to look! Hope you don’t mind…
My husband is a retired Marine and we’re homeschoolers.
Your days sound much like ours- only yours sound more organized!
Sounds … perfect.
