We’re really enjoying our studies right now. As we continue reading the Little House series, we are very much appreciative of the warm house that we live in. We’re glad for electricity, running water, and stocked grocery stores. We’re glad that we have warm clothes that don’t need to be patched again and again. We’re glad that we don’t have to twist hay into hay sticks to burn for heat and cooking because there is nothing else to heat the house. We’re glad that we don’t wake up covered in snow and freezing because the wind is blowing through the walls. Brrr!
We’ve learned about the Morse code and telegraph. We enjoyed getting to know Fanny Crosby. Hearing about her hardships and seeing the joy in her life after she became a Christian was truly inspirational. Munchkin loved the idea that someone who was blind wasn’t limited in her life. She lived a very full, happy life. She has hope that Mary Ingalls will one day not be limited by her blindness, but will flourish in her life.
We’re combining our new habit of recycling with the Little House stories. They made a rag rug to shut out the cold. We’re braiding a “plastic” rug out of the newspaper bags. Every three days we add more to the “rug”. It should be interesting to see how it turns out.
Science is always fun and filled with experiments. We tend to go with whatever Munchkin is interested in at the moment for science. We add things from the Prairie Primer as well.
History is built right into the Prairie Primer. We read books about historical characters along with our Little House Book.
Penmanship focuses on her scripture verse for the week. Our Bible and character development is also built into the Prairie Primer (as well as every day life).
For grammar, we’re currently working on a grammar lapbook from Hands of a Child. So far, we’re having fun with it. We’ll post pics once we get done with it.
In Math, we’re working on fractions. Munchkin doesn’t care too much for fractions, so we’re just plugging along and getting things done. We’re also doing drills for multiplication.
We’re currently on track to finish up the school year prior to D’s R&R. We just signed Munchkin up for spring homechool baseball. This will be the first time that she’s played, and she’s quite excited. She had such a blast playing fall soccer with this league that she can’t help look forward to the new season. If all goes as scheduled, D should be able to see at least one game which would be a blessing.
We haven’t been doing very many field trips lately or very many activities which has been a bit of a blessing. Soon enough, the weather will change and the craziness will once again begin. For now, we’ll enjoy our peaceful time at home…
sounds good to me
