Thankful Thursday: Learning

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

Has your week ever started out in a way that made you feel like you just wanted to crawl back in bed and pull the cover over your eyes? You had so much to do and had no idea how you were going to get it all done? That was our week around here, but God had other plans for us.

This week, we started back up with school. I was such a blessing watching Munchkin eager to learn again. Some of that love of learning had faded over the last few months because of the crazy schedule that we had with moving and everything else that was going on in our lives.

We’ve had a wonderful first week filled with great adventures. I was able to find a great video series that covers many of the topics that we’ll be going over this year, so I reserved a lot of dvds at the library this week. This was a blessings as I wasn’t sure exactly how we were going to go about learning some of the topics. Munchkin really is enjoying the videos and she’s been taking on “projects” on her own. (We watched a video on atoms and molecules, so she drew the parts as she was watching the video. We watched a video on maps, so she drew a map of our local area that included a map key.)

We’ve been blessed with both beautiful weather and rain (which we needed). We were able to go to a meeting for Junior First Lego League. Munchkin has a real interest in participating in this. We were also able to go on a fun field trip to the petting zoo. My daughter has a real love of animals and loves learning new things about the animals.

Not to be left out, D was finally able to get registered for his online classes which was a huge blessing in and of itself. He’s been trying to get this taken care of for some time. While it’s never easy when he’s working and taking classes, he looks forward to completing this degree.

I know that I have been learning a lot this week as I am seeing things once again through the eyes of a child. I am learning all over again as I teach my daughter — though, at times, I feel she really is teaching me. I have also been able to see something that has been a bit difficult for us (D’s dietary change) be a blessing to others.

I am so glad that the Lord gives us a thirst for knowledge and the ability to keep learning for a lifetime. The innocence of a child is also a beautiful thing as they see life through different eyes. We too can see life through their eyes if we take a moment and just listen.

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. — Mark 10:13-16

A search for knowledge–YES! We should all remember how blessed we are.

Please think about joining us for Fruit in the Spirit Friday tomorrow. Each Friday morning there will be a FOSF post and My Linky.

How wonderful that you have a lesson plan for your little girl all put together. I am sure it is stressful at first (to find all the right material) – but I think it is a blessing for the two of you. So, you don’t take a summer break?
I am thankful with you that your beloved took the step to finish his degree. I know it is not easy on the family, but with His help you can do it.

Thank you so much for sharing your grateful heart with us this week.

    Be blessed today and always.
