I was able to get a lot of reading in while we were camping which was such a blessing as I love to read.

I really enjoyed reading A Woman After God’s Own Heart by Elizabeth George. There were a lot of practical tips on how to truly become a woman after God’s own heart. One thing that I personally took away was making sure that your husband is #1 in the relationship (after God). All too often it is easy to allow the kids (or other things) to take first place in our lives. It was a good reminder to me that I need to make sure that I really am putting my husband in his proper place, and that he feels like he is number one. This was a great read that I highly recommend.

Smart Women Keep It Simple by Annie Chapman. This was an interesting read on trying to keep things simple in your life by not taking on too much or expecting too much of yourself. Annie opens herself up and shows you how she is failing in her life and how she is working to make things better. While this was not my favorite read, it did have some helpful incites.

Survival for Busy Women by Emilie Barnes. I personally enjoy books by Emilie Barnes and this book was no exception. It’s a great book to teach you how to get your home and life organized. If you’ve read some of her other books, you will see some things repeated (such as perfect boxes for organizing). Overall, it’s a good book.

The True Measure of a Woman by Lisa Bevere. I must admit that I had a hard time getting into this book. It seemed to drag for me. I looked forward to her chapters on weight, but was disappointed. While she did open herself up and talk about her eating disorders, the read was not helpful to me. Others may enjoy it. I couldn’t personally recommend this book.

Now, I also read some books on gardening as I really wanted to try to expand my gardening skills for the garden that we’re working on this year. I started off with All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. Now, to be fair, I had read this book a while ago, but I finally purchased a copy for myself. I really like this book. The basic concept is similar to container gardening except that you’re creating square feet. A certain number of plants fit in each square foot. You don’t have to deal with weeds, so gardening is much easier. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I also picked up a book put out by DK called Vegetable Gardening, so I could get a few more tips on veggies. This book gives you a variety of options for gardening as well as tips on care and harvesting. It’s a great book for beginners, and it’s filled with pictures which munchkin likes.

As you can see, I have enjoyed my reading time. I’m working on finishing up the Power of a Praying Parent and the Power of a Praying Woman. Both books are wonderful and I highly recommend any books in the Power of Praying series. We’re working on the Power of a Praying Kid with munchkin and D is reading the Power of a Praying Husband.

Yes, I do read fast, but I was also blessed with time to read. It’s amazing how much you can read when you don’t have to worry about maintaining a household for a couple of weeks. lol!

The square foot gardening book has peaked my interest – I plan to look into it! Annie Chapman, and her husband Steve, did a Sweetheart Banquet at our church with some extra speaking events thrown in – it was such a wonderful weekend! They are soooo funny! Thanks for the other reviews too!
