Valentine’s Day has gotten me thinking about love. We often hear that people fall in love or fall out of love, but what is love truly??? Is it possible to have a love that lasts a lifetime? It’s so rare these days to see a couple that makes it a lifetime. It’s sad to hear that they are the exception not the rule. What would happen if we decided that we would love like the Bible teaches us to love?
The Bible tells us… Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things; believes all things; hopes all things; endures all things.
We have a picture of this in our room. We received it for our wedding. What a good reminder that love is not about ourselves, but about others.
Love is not a feeling. Love is a decision. We aren’t to feel patient or kind; we are to be patient and kind. We are to give all of ourselves; it doesn’t matter what the other person is doing towards us. We are to be forgiving; this does not mean bringing up the past (as easy as that may be to do at times).
As we enter into the “week of love” let’s remember what the Bible says about love. Let it be our guide in what we do this week (and for the rest of our lives).
“Is it possible to have a love that lasts a lifetime?”
Yes, with the Lord as our guide!
What a lovely post – no pun intended:)
