It’s hard to believe, but yesterday (September 18, 2006) was Munchkin’s first day of 3rd grade. Things will be a bit more difficult this year, but we both agreed that we would try our best and try to continue to have fun. We have many different field trips planned throughout the year including some yummy ones like a field trip to CiCis pizza. We plan on heading to Williamsburg to visit Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown over Columbus day weekend. D has a long weekend, so we’re going to camp down there. It should be a lot of fun if it all works out.
We’re currently studying the book of Joshua in Bible and all of our science and social studies stem off from there. This week, we’re studying explorers and different methods of navigation. We’re supposed to be making a topographical salt map on Friday, but I’m not sure how that will work out. We’ll take that one step at a time.
Wednesday, we have a field trip called a Trail Through Time – From the banks of Hazel Run where Indians once gathered clay, to the cliffs where women and children sought refuge during the Civil War, Alum Spring Park offers an astounding peek into the past. We will visit the sites of the old ice house, tragic duel and rr as we take a hike and travel through time. I think it will be a lot of fun and a good learning experience. Nothing beats hands on….
Munchkin is now participating in her gymnastics class on Monday and a homeschool p.e. group on Thursdays. During this 6 week session, they are learning to play volleyball. The next 6 week session will be basketball. After Christmas, they will be studying soccer, tennis, and swimming (all in 6 week sessions). We may not be here for the swimming session; we’ll see.
Today, D is on a field trip in Maryland. They are studying the battle at Antietam, so they went to the actual battlegrounds today. They will each be giving presentations on certain parts of the battle. It’s supposed to rain today, but hopefully, it won’t so they don’t get soaked!!!
That’s a rundown of what’s going on this week. Hopefully, I’ll have some fun pictures to post from various field trips shortly.
