Phi Theta Kappa Table

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs.

Mission Statement:

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Phi Theta Kappa Induction

M was asked to join PTK last year when she made the President’s List for academics at the college, but she didn’t make it to the induction ceremony due to the timing. She joined the honor society last year, but she attended the official induction ceremony this month with her fellow inductees.

Phi Theta Kappa Book Signing

After learning about the history of Phi Theta Kappa and what the different symbols meant, the students made their way up to the front to sign the Phi Theta Kappa member book. They then lit a candle (which was quickly extinguished to regulations. lol!).

Phi Theta Kappa Rose

After signing the book and lighting their candles, each student was given a single white rose before heading back to their seat. Of course, M is rather quick when it comes to turning and sitting down, so getting a picture can be quite interesting. We’ve tried to get her to just pause a second, but she doesn’t think about it until she’s back to her seat.

Phi Theta Kappa Inductees

A quick group picture with the inductees was taken prior to beginning the celebration with cake and punch. It was a fun opportunity to meet a few of M’s friends as well as honor the hard work of the students. The instructors who are leaders in PTK really care about the students and really want to see them succeed not only in their studies but also in life.

M’s membership in PTK also gave her the opportunity to receive a small scholarship at her 4-year university.
