Pink Together Giveaway

Pink Together Scrapbook Page

Breast cancer awareness is near and dear to my heart as my mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor.  Cancer is a horrible disease which touches way too many lives.  I’m sure there are very few individuals who have not been touched in some way by cancer.  When I was asked if I’d like to help spread the word about the 2011 Pink Together campaign, I said yes.  Having lost my mother to ovarian cancer, I know the importance of spreading the word about regular check-ups as well as helping raise funds for cancer research.  Fighting cancer is not something you can do alone.  It’s a fight that must be done with others.

It is through Christ and through the love of friends and others who have been there that cancer patients, their families, and survivors can find hope and be inspired.

Join the 2011 Pink Together™ campaign – now in its fifth year of celebrating hope – by visiting PinkTogether.com to connect with a unique online community of people who have been touched by breast cancer and share a passion for the cause. Individually we are strong, but together we are stronger. Share your personal story and messages of hope and read about others’ personal journeys.

To encourage personal connections, General Mills will donate $1 to the Komen organization for each Message of Hope that is sent to someone who has shared their story on PinkTogether.com (up to $25,000) during October. This is in addition to a $2 million donation General Mills is making to the Komen organization.  This year consumers can choose how $1 million of this donation will be shared between two important Komen programs: the Treatment and Assistance Program, which assists women in securing care they otherwise may not be able to afford, and Prevention Research, which helps unlock the keys to preventing breast cancer. When you visit PinkTogether.com from September 19, 2011 through April 14, 2012, you can make your choice. Results will be announced on Mother’s Day 2012 – Sunday, May 13.

Don’t forget to look for the special General Mills pink packaging for participating products in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.  Head on over to PinkTogether.com and the Pink Together YouTube Channel to meet the 2011 Pink Together Survivor Ambassador, and hear their amazing stories of courage and survival.

  1. I did not realize you lost your mom to ovarian cancer:( I am so sorry to hear that. I have been having to go to the doctor every few months for follow up, because of testing results at the gyn. While it is SUCH a pain, I realize that without these types of tests and such that are available today, I might have had cancer. Very sobering. I am glad to see reports success stories like your MIL. Thanks for sharing your stories!

    • Cancer is such a scary thing, but it’s wonderful that we do have the technology that we do have today. They’ve made huge leaps since my mom was diagnosed, so there is definitely more hope now.

  3. My mom and one of my paternal aunts are breast cancer survivors. We have several friends at church who are survivors. This will be the third year that a group from church is participating in the Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk for breast cancer. Two of the ladies are attempting to walk at every venue for the event (one city each year).

My husband passed away from colon cancer at the age of 29. That means our son will have to start having colonoscopies when he is 19. I love that the Pink Together campaign promotes awareness.

    • Wow! I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine…

Thank you for sharing your story and for the reminder that it’s not just us girls who need to be aware and get normal check-ups. My father-in-law is a colon cancer survivor. We’re grateful that they were able to catch it early. He’s now recovering from surgery to remove cancer from his kidney. It’s wicked stuff.

  11. My grandmother had it in thelate 50s and survived to die of Alzheimer’s at 88. My mom died of breast cancer at 58. Indeed, cancer is a horrible, awful disease.

I lost a parent to cancer so I know cancer can effect a family’s lives unfortunately. I think the Pink Together Campaign is a great way to raise breast cancer awareness in both men and women. Just wish there were more mammography services for men though 🙂
