Awana: 50s Night & Poodle Skirt

At 3:00 yesterday, Munchkin informs me that “tonight is 50s night at Awana, Mom!”  Oh, okay…  So, my mind begins to scramble and try to think what we can do for 50s night.  I go check my stash of fabric to see what I have available.  I decide to make a poodle skirt.

I found some blue fabric and cut out a circle of fabric using pinking sheers.  Then, I cut a center hole for the waist.  I cut a strip of black fabric for a waistband.  Then I find a poodle outline online and cut out a black poodle.  I scrounge around in my sewing bench and find some black rick rack to make the leash.  I decide to add a little button for the collar.  1 hour later, this is the poodle skirt look that we were able to achieve.

The girls were all dressed up for 50s night at Awana. They were giggling and laughing and having a good time. I was able to get them to stop for a minute to take a picture on the condition that I allowed them to do a funny shot after the real one.

We had a schedule posted on our board at home, and both Munchkin and I forgot that it was 50s week. We just had so much going on that we forgot what week it was. Our Awana leaders actually put together a schedule at the beginning of the year and gave it to the parents. They remind the kids the week before if there is something special going on the next week. When Munchkin went to pick up the other girls, they had forgotten as well, so they quickly threw something together. It was just one of those weeks. :-)
