Updates on the Cabin Part 4

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

After an enjoyable weekend with Grandma and Grandpa, Monday found us on our last day together. We had planned on heading out on Monday morning to do some fun things together and look for some items that we needed for the cabin, but one of the electricians showed up. Munchkin and Grandma settled down to play a game of Scrabble while we got a few things done. Later, as I prepared lunch, everyone else played board games as we waited for the electrician to wrap things up. (It turns out there were a lot of things that were done wrong…

Updates on the Cabin Part 3

Munchkin and I arrived at the cabin late Monday afternoon. After unpacking the truck, I started looking over what had and had not been done. Sadly, our new contractor and his boss (K & P) had been lied to by the subcontractors. The electric wasn’t done and some of the lines were hot that were sticking out of the outlets. Um, yep – talk about a safety hazard!!! The plumbing hadn’t been touched, and the hvac hadn’t been finished. **sigh** I call D to let him know what’s going on before making phone calls to P & K. Eventually, I…

Updates on the Cabin Part 2

Upon arrival home from the cabin, we jumped back into our regular routine as quickly as possible. Being away from home/work/school for a chunk of time means there is a good deal of work to get caught up on. Munchkin was thrilled to be back in TaeKwonDo as she had really missed it. Thanks to the holidays, D didn’t have as much catching up to do as he would have normally, but he still was quite busy. Me? Well, I had a stack of review items to go through, paperwork to be done, and of course, blogging to accomplish. Plus,…

As you know, we headed to Michigan for Christmas to spend time with our family. While we were there, the contractor (R) was scheduled to get a good bit of work done including the electric, hvac, and the plumbing. Much to our displeasure, we returned to the cabin after our trip (Wednesday, Jan 2) to find that not only had the work not been completed, but also that the work that had been done had not been done right. We were exhausted from the trip, but we immediately jumped on the phone to find out what was going on. Later…

Reflections on the Cabin Flooding

Posted in Family

Time and again, we heard the same statements from the various people who came to the cabin after the pipe burst and subsequent flooding: Wow! You guys are way out here. I didn’t even know this area existed! I can’t believe how much work you did. You guys have really good attitudes about all of this. The first one always made us chuckle. It’s one of the reasons that we loved the property. It’s away from the craziness of the city, but we still have excellent neighbors who look out for each other. It’s something special to have a tight…
