When family comes to visit, we have to take them to Joshua Tree National Park to do a little exploring and hiking. We decided to make the first hike with J an easy one by heading over to Barker Dam. The Petroglyph Barker Dam Loop Hike is always enjoyable whether it’s winter hike or summer hike. It also gave us the opportunity to show her a couple of our climbing areas while hiking. With all of the rain that has been falling, I wanted to do a winter hike over at Barker Dam. I was hoping to see the old cattle tank area filled with water. I was not disappointed.

It’s hard to believe that we haven’t been out hiking since June 2015. We love the great outdoors and exploring, but my ankle injury put everything on hold for months and months and months. I’m still working on getting back to 100%, but I’m now at the point where I felt that I could start doing some short hikes. The first day of spring seemed like the perfect time to give it a try.
