Joshua Tree National Park – Petroglyph Barker Dam Loop Hike

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

When family comes to visit, we have to take them to Joshua Tree National Park to do a little exploring and hiking. We decided to make the first hike with J an easy one by heading over to Barker Dam. The Petroglyph Barker Dam Loop Hike is always enjoyable whether it’s winter hike or summer hike. It also gave us the opportunity to show her a couple of our climbing areas while hiking. Even though it was windy, it was a perfect day for a hike. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones who felt that way as there were families…

Joshua Tree National Park – Hi-View Nature Trail Hike

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

Sometimes, failing to thoroughly research a nature trail before heading out for a hike means you end up on a more difficult hike that originally planned. For us, it wasn’t a bad thing as we were properly prepared for whatever the trail held for us that day, but it did mean that the Hi-View Nature Trail hike took a little longer than planned. Big Morongo Canyon Preserve – Canyon Trail Hike

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

A few years ago, we headed to Big Morongo Canyon Preserve for our girl’s birthday. Since it was mid-April, the desert temps had already started to climb. The preserve offers more trees and shade (in some areas) than the surrounding dessert, so it’s a good place to hike when it’s too hot for afternoon hikes in Joshua Tree National Park. Due to it being warm, we didn’t do the Canyon Trail Hike that day, so we decided it was time to head back and check out the trail. Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is a 31,000 acre desert oasis that is…
