Coming Home Book Description: Twin brothers Arion and Argo are scared. They have spent most of their lives shipwrecked on the lonely, gray island of Terrene with their ship’s captain, and now he is leaving and they cannot imagine life on Terrene without him. He is going to Bluestone, a place where the birds always sing and the grass is ever green. He tells them he is going to prepare a place for them in Bluestone. Then he will come back for them, and they will all go to Bluestone together. Though Bluestone sounds like a wonderful place, the boys…

Mahi Mahi with Sweet Onion Sauce

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

It’s time for Sunday lunch, and I have no clue what we’re going to have to eat. I look into the freezer and see some frozen Mahi Mahi. An idea starts to form in my head as I look around to see what other ingredients that I have available. Quinoa and large sweet onions catch my eye. It looks like it’s time for a food experiment. Whenever I cook fish, I have to make sure that it doesn’t have a strong fish flavor as Daddy is not big on fish, but he’ll eat it as long as it’s not fishy.…

Applegate Natural Deli Meats

So you’ve decided that you want the convenience of pre-sliced deli meats but you don’t want all of the additives and other “yucky” stuff that can be found in many of the prepackaged meats. At the same time, you don’t want to sacrifice taste when looking for a good alternative. This is where Applegate Organic and Natural Meats enter the picture.

Applegate Natural Meats are humanely raised without the use of antibiotics, and are free of nitrates, nitrites, and other artificial ingredients. They don’t sacrifice flavor or texture when providing a healthier alternative to traditional packaged meats on the market.

Now, if you’re like me and live in an area without a bunch of health food stores, you may find the meat a bit difficult to find. In fact, you may learn that you need to pick up the meat when you’re visiting a location where they have places like Whole Foods, Sprouts…. (Our local stores carried a few Applegate products, but they did not carry the natural meats.) You can check out the store locator to find a retailer near you. On a positive note, when you do locate them, you’ll be pleased to know that they are gluten free. In fact, many of the Applegate products are gluten free.

Mouse Egg Salad

Of course, since we’re gluten free, we often find ourselves taking our lunches on the go which means I need to find easy lunches/snacks for on the road. We enjoy having things like meat, cheese, and crackers with veggies and/or fruit when we’re on the go. If I get a little more creative, Munchkin may find herself having a fun lunch like the Mouse Egg Salad pictured above.

Would you like to try out the Applegate Natural Deli Meats? Two of my readers will win an Applegate Natural Deli Meats prize pack courtesy of Applegate through Moms Meet. Giveaway is open to US residents and ends 10/31.

Fitness Friday: ShapelyGirl Fitness Week 2 Recap

Posted in Fitness, and Reviews

I have joined up with some other ladies from the CWA Review team to form a ShapelyGirl Fitness exercise group for the month of October. Each Friday during October, I’m going to post updates on how I’ve done for the week as a way to be held accountable. My final post will be on November 2, 2012 where I will wrap everything up and talk about my experience with the ShapelyGirl Fitness program. I would love to report back great news for week two, but unfortunately, I can’t. I’ve been too ill this week to work out with the dvd,…

Testing for TaeKwonDo Yellow Belt

Posted in Family, Fitness, and Homeschooling

While Gramma and Grampa were here visiting, Munchkin had the opportunity to test for her TaeKwonDo yellow belt. She was nervous and excited all rolled up into one as testing day approached. We all (including Gramma and Grampa) headed over the dojang on Saturday morning. One by one the students who were testing went over their steps and forms, answered questions, and performed the tasks requested by the testing panel. When Munchkin’s turn came, I was allowed to enter the room to take pictures. (I had asked her prior to the testing if she was okay with me being in…
