The Mean Mom

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

I believe that I’m quickly earning the title of the “mean mom” in our new neighborhood. Apparently the following items brand you as a mean mom:

  • Your child is required to do her school work and chores before she plays.
  • Your child is not allowed to go into people’s houses when we don’t know them.
  • Your child needs to stay within earshot/eyesight of us (for the most part) instead of going all over the housing area.
  • Your child has a normal bedtime routine that doesn’t include staying out after dark playing.
  • Your child doesn’t always get her way even if she asks nicely hoping that we’ll bend the rules a little.
  • Your child eats meals with her family instead of walking around the neighborhood with her food.

Thankfully, Munchkin doesn’t think that I’m a mean mom. I think it helps that she knows the reasoning behind the rules, and we’re consistent about enforcing them. We will occasionally make exceptions or changes to rules if she can give a good reason why we should reconsider them.

Yes, we are more strict and protective than many parents, but we have reasons behind what we have chosen to do with our child. I pray that we’ll always have a child with an obedient heart, and that we’ll always have open lines of communication.

We have the same set of rules – does that make me a mean Mum, too?

Display your badge of meanness with pride and honor. 🙂

You said it perfectly, reach Munchkin's heart and communication is key. Those are the two main ingredients after God of course.

You are 'such' a good mom!!! 🙂

That's not mean, it's called good parenting! Keep it up, and who knows, your good example might make some of those other parents stand up and take notice. God bless Munchkin, that she understands and knows that you love her.

    You big meanie! *wink

There are some in my family that think I'm so strict b/c I care what my kiddos eat and that they go to bed on time. Even though I know it is the right thing, it does get old to be thought of as unreasonable. Good job for staying strong to what you know is right!

And glad Munchkin is finding some friends! 🙂
