We enjoy drinking pop (aka soda) at our house, but I do not like the high fructose corn syrup in most pop. The healthier natural versions of pop are usually quite expensive in comparison to traditional pop. Recently, we were able to purchase some of traditional pop (Mountain Dew and Pepsi) in their throwback versions (used real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup). The only problem with these was the storage and disposal issue of all of the cans.
A little over a year go, we had seen a SodaStream at an RV store while we were picking up some parts, but we didn’t really look at it. Fast forward to a month ago when we were given the opportunity to try out our own SodaStream. I didn’t realize how nice this product would be not only at home, but also while we were out camping. In addition to producing great tasting pop where we could control the “fizz factor”, the SodaStream became a fun item to use.
Munchkin really enjoyed being able to make her own pop. She really like the root beer. She’d fill up the reusable BPA free bottle with cold water from the water cooler and place it in the SodaStream. With a few pushes of the button and 3 buzzes, she had carbonated water. She then adds a cap of the root beer concentrate to the carbonated water. She thought it was cool to watch the brown concentrate swirl into the carbonated water as she turned the bottle up and down. Once the carbonated water and root beer concentrate was thoroughly combine, she was able to enjoy delicious root beer that she had made.
Munchkin thought the whole process was so fun that she was constantly showing the SodaStream to her friends. They also thought it was really cool. Who would have thought that making pop could be so entertaining and fun.
While camping in our trailer, we took the SodaStream and made our own pop. We didn’t have to be concerned with storage of cans of pop. All we needed was the SodaStream, a reusable SodaStream bottle, water, and the small bottle of concentrate. We had zero waste and no storage issues.
My only complaint with the SodaStream concentrates are that even the non-diet versions contain Splenda. For most people this would be a non-issue, but I do feel that it leaves an aftertaste. It does not bother Munchkin or D. I wish they would have left the Splenda out and just used sugar for the non-diet concentrates. The main difference between the diet version of the concentrates and the regular version is that the regular version has both sugar and Splenda while the diet version has only Splenda.

I personally liked the BPA free plastic bottles that came with our Fountain Jet. I didn’t have to be concerned with the bottles breaking while Munchkin was making her pop.

I received a SodaStream starter kit in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
