Early Christmas at the Cabin

Posted in Family, and Holidays

Mantel with Greenery

Instead of heading straight up to Michigan for Christmas, we stopped by the cabin. We needed to check in on the progress (or lack thereof as it turned out) of the work, and it was a better starting point for the trip. Munchkin didn’t know it, but Daddy and I thought it would be fun to surprise her by celebrating Christmas at the cabin. Since we were giving her a Kindle and a keyboard case for her tablet for Christmas, we thought it would be nice to give them to her for the trip rather than wait until we celebrated Christmas with the family in Michigan.

Christmas Tree

I had her gifts as well as the family gifts (a couple of movies) wrapped up before we headed up to the cabin to make it easy. While Munchkin was sleeping, I gathered some pine cuttings and decorated the mantel and table. I wrapped some lights around the staircase railing. Finally, we created our own “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree by nailing some pine tree branches to a log to create a different version of a Christmas tree. I added the lights and the star. Later that day, Munchkin made the ornaments and added them to the tree.

Fireplace Mantel

When Munchkin woke up, she was very surprised that the house looked more festive. We lit the fire and enjoyed our gluten free baked goods for breakfast. Munchkin was quite excited to receive her new Kindle as well as the tablet case with keyboard. The trip would be much better with these two items. I was even able to surprise her with older hard copy editions of The Lord of the Rings series and the Hobbit. (Swagbucks is wonderful for things like this. **grin**) We enjoyed watching a movie together before we had to get back to work. Munchkin had fun creating ornaments for the tree and Daddy and I worked on some things around the cabin while we watched movies. Overall, it was a good day.

    • The basic Kindles have gone way down in price – especially if you go with the ad version. We really like to give useful gifts whenever possible. Swagbucks has allowed me to earn free gift cards which makes getting things a little easier.
