Up, Down, All Around

Cast All Your Burdens Upon Me

As you can probably tell from some of my posts this week, it’s been a rather crazy week. I’m not ready to write all about it yet as we’re still seeing what the Lord has in His plans for us. No matter what happens, we’ve decided that we’re going to praise the Lord – good or bad. We couldn’t let our emotions get the better of us which is often easier said than done.

It’s funny because as I started to think about the crazy – super crazy – week that we’ve had I started to think about the past year as the interesting ups and downs that we’ve experienced. Then I remembered that really it wasn’t just the last year, it was the last couple of years. We never imagined all that we would go through at this duty station, and we certainly didn’t think that we’d end up being here for 4 years instead of 3. (We’re okay with our tour here being extended. It just wasn’t expected.)

We’ve experienced some really great highs and some very sad lows. We’ve said hello to new friends and goodbye to old ones. We lost some furry companions and added new ones to our family. We had great successes with fitness and health, and we’ve had extreme failures. We’ve gone through spiritual highs and lows as we’ve sought the Lord’s will in our lives.

Now, we find ourselves at another crossroads waiting to see what the future holds. Last year at this time, we were getting ready for D to have his second back surgery, and we were waiting to see where the Marine Corps would be sending us next. Here we are a year later waiting to see how things are going to go with his back when he heads in to take his military fitness tests, and once again, we’re wondering where the Marine Corps will send us next. There are other things that are completely up in the air that we wonder how the Lord will allow to play out.

Yet, even with all the many things going on, we know that the Lord is saying “I’ve got this”. We know that we are not in control. We trust that He will guide us in the best path for our lives. We know that He never promised life would be easy, but He always promised to be there for us and help us through both the good times and the bad times. So, as the weekend begins, we look forward to a new week and the possibilities that it might hold.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
