Chocolate Covered Strawberry

For Valentine’s Day, I wanted to have a special dessert, but I didn’t have the time to bake anything that day.  I thought it would be fun to have some chocolate covered strawberries.  We’ve had store purchased chocolate covered strawberries before, but they’re rarely very good plus they are usually quite expensive.  We had to stop and get milk at the grocery store, so we picked up a container of strawberries for $2.50.

I placed about 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 Tbsp of coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl.  I microwaved at 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval until the chocolate was smooth.  Each strawberry was dipped in the chocolate and place on the tray.  (Don’t do like I did and forget the wax paper.)  I placed them in the fridge to set.

Gluten Free Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits

Munchkin and D had fallen asleep on Saturday night.  I slipped downstairs and starting preparing their surprise breakfast, gluten free cinnamon raisin biscuits.  I tinted the frosting pink just for fun.  (Munchkin declared the next day that they tasted like a cross between biscuits and cinnamon rolls.)

As the biscuits were baking, I began to decorate for Valentine’s Day.  Neither D nor Munchkin expected to find anything on Sunday morning, but this is what they saw…

Valentine's Table Decorations

Wanting to add a little fun to our plain light over the table, I hung balloons with pom, pom ribbon.  I always pick up decorations after the holidays, so I’m able to decorate easily on a budget.  I keep all the decorations from each holiday in their own storage bin.  I try to have them color coordinated according to the normal colors of that holiday.

Unexpected Valentine Decorations

After Christmas, I found these picks on clearance at Michael’s Crafts.  They were marked 90% off by the time I found them.  I quickly snatched up all of these picks and put them in with our Valentine’s Day decorations.  I popped them in small red glass vases from the dollar store for a cute decoration.

Valentine's Gluten Free Pasta

Every year, I make some type of pasta dish for Munchkin for Valentine’s Day.  This year, I used a large Wilton heart cookie cutter to shape the pasta.  I packed the pasta into the cookie cutter, and this was the result.  Of course, we had to add a bunch of cheese sprinkled on top.

We ended our day with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries that I made earlier in the day.  We all enjoyed the strawberries, and we had a wonderful Valentine’s Day together.

Some of the other crafts [...]]]> At the homeschool Valentine’s party, Munchkin and her friends had fun doing several different crafts.  The mom who pulled together all of the crafts did a great job.

Some of the other crafts included painting rocks, fingerprint heart cards, and heart rubbings.  The kids each made a Valentine card to be delivered to local shut-ins.

They had fun passing out their Valentines to each other.  We had them line up the bags/mailboxes/boxes on the sofas, and they went through and dropped all the cards/goodies in the appropriate bag/mailbox/box.  They also had fun playing Valentine’s themed games such as the the candy heart game.  There were 2 bowls filled with the candy conversation hearts.  Each child received a pair of chopsticks.  In 30 seconds, each person had to see how many hearts they could get out of the bowl using the chopsticks.
