St George Dinosaur Discovery Site

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

When you have a kiddo, like Munchkin, who loves dinosaurs, you can’t pass up the opportunity to go to a real dinosaur site.  St. George Discovery Site at Johnson Farm is the type of thing that any kid loves to hear about.  A gentleman, Dr. Sheldon Johnson, was doing some work on his property leveling the land when he uncovered a dinosaur track in a thick layer of sandstone.  Experts were called in and thousands of tracks ended up being uncovered.  Dr. Johnson and his wife felt that this site should be preserved for science and future generations. Zion: Temple of Sinawava

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

The Temple of Sinawava is the last shuttle stop in Zion.  It is here that you can take a mile long hike to the beginning of the Narrows, a tall slot canyon.  While we did make the hike back to the beginning of The Narrows, we had to stop instead of trekking forward as we desired.  Soon, you will see why we needed to stop. Munchkin liked looking out over the landscape below and snapping pictures while the water dripped unto the ledge. Munchkin and I took turns taking the following shots.  A couple of trees made this fun archway across the hiking trail. The final stop at our Zion…

Zion: Zion Lodge & Emerald Pools

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

Zion Lodge has a huge cottonwood tree that has a trunk over seven feet in diameter.  We enjoyed walking across the lush green grass and standing beneath the cottonwood tree.  We decided to splurge and pick up a couple of smoothies from the little restaurant they have at the lodge.  Since we didn’t want to sit while drinking our smoothies, we chose to hike up to the Emerald Pools. Due to the time of year, the Emerald Pools were a little less than spectacular, but the hike itself was beautiful and enjoyable.  After we reached the pools, we decided to…
