Make Your Own Neck Cooler

Posted in Homemaking

Project 365 – #194 Summer is here in full force, and we have family coming in to visit.  It’s hot enough for those of us who live here, so I know it’s going to be rather toasty for our visitors.  After making a few neck coolers for D, Munchkin, and myself for the 4th of July weekend, I decided it would be nice to make some for the rest of our family during their vacation here. This project is a great way to use up scrap material left over from other sewing projects. Materials needed: Aqua Gems (polymer beads that…

Sewing: Christmas Pajamas

Posted in Homemaking

Last year’s CHRISTmas pjs were such a huge hit, that Munchkin requested that I make the pjs again this year, but she wanted them to be long shorts instead of pants this year.  (Due to our warmer winter weather, the pjs get more use if they are shorts rather than pants.)  I’m just pairing the board shorts with plain t-shirts for easy, comfy pjs. I had picked up the material last year after Thanksgiving, but never got around to making the additional pjs bottoms as planned.  That worked out okay as now I had just the right amount of fabric…

Easy Bib Apron Pattern

Posted in Homemaking

Christmas usually means lots of baking and/or crafts, so you may like to have an extra apron or two on hand.  This apron is very quick and easy to put together.  It can easily be adjusted for different sizes.  I’m not use to doing a tutorial for these types of sewing things, but I thought I would give it a try this time. Supplies: 2 large cloth napkins (or 2 18X18 pieces of fabric with edges finished) thread ribbon Directions: You’ll want to make sure everything has been washed and ironed.  Ironing each step of the process will end in…

Sewing: Cricut Dust Cover & Bag

One of the fun things about having a more relaxed schooling schedule for December is that we can tackle some fun projects that get placed on the back burner during the regular school year.  My project for today wasn’t exactly an old project that needed to get done, but it was something that I was happy to accomplish. Since it’s so dusty here, I thought it would be a good idea to have a dust cover for my new Cricut.  I look around on the internet to see if I could find a pattern, but the one that I found…

The Little Things in Life: Sewing Together

Posted in Family, and Homemaking

On Thursday afternoon, Munchkin decided that she wanted to try to make a sock monkey.  She’s always adored sock monkeys and thought it would be fun to make her own.  We didn’t have the “right” socks for the job, but she didn’t really care.  We looked up the basic design for the sock monkey set off on our sock monkey adventure.  Slowly, the monkey started to take shape as we sat there talking, cutting, sewing, and stuffing.  We laughed as the monkey was a little too skinny and had crooked ears, but Munchkin was pleased with the results.  I just…
