First Snowfall of 2018

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

When darkness fell on the homestead, the skies were crystal clear. Stars were shining brightly above. The air was crisp and a bitter wind blew all around. I heard a noise outside and went to check on the chickens. What I saw surprised me. The ground was blanketed with freshly fallen snow. Snowflakes fluttered all around me. It was our first snowfall of 2018. While Wiley and Wyatt have experienced snow, this was Wynoka’s first snow. I opened the back door, and she cautiously stepped out onto the porch. She sniffed at the cold white stuff. Then she flew down…

Wiley: Knee Injury Recovery Without Surgery Part 1

Posted in Family

The words that you don’t want to hear from your vet were spoken back in November. Your dog has a ccl (acl) tear in his right knee. I was in shock as I have never had a dog with a knee injury. Apparently, it’s becoming quite common for dogs of all sizes. The prognosis – expensive knee surgery. The vet went on to say that surgery was the only way that Wiley would heal. At first, she wasn’t sure about straying from her normal routine, but she soon saw that it could be ok to do things a little differently every now and again. Each of the pups received a new treat…

A Furever Home for Christmas: Waynoka

Posted in Family

I’m happy to introduce Waynoka (graceful in Shawnee). At 9 weeks old, she’s a sweet and energetic shepherd/boxer mix who loves to cuddle. Thankfully, she’s young enough that the fact that this is her 3rd home doesn’t seem to have had any negative effects on her. M adopted Waynoka with plans for her becoming a therapy dog. It was nice to be able to give a rescue dog a furever home for Christmas. A new pup on the homestead has certainly created a bit of a stir with our other dogs. It will take a little time for her to be…
