Creation Rim Tour at the Grand Canyon

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

To celebrate Munchkin’s graduation, we headed over to the Grand Canyon to take a rim tour with Canyon Ministries. Our day started rather early as we needed to meet our guide – Guy – in Williams by 07:00. We all piled into the tour vehicle, and Guy began to tell us a little about Canyon Ministries and what we’d be doing that day. Unfortunately, Munchkin was not feeling well, but she was not going to miss this opportunity. She immediately started peppering Guy with questions which I think he liked as she was totally engaged in the tour. She was…

Bouldering: Pixie Boulder

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

Beautiful weather and the outdoors called to us this weekend, so we headed over to Pixie Boulder. Daddy and Munchkin wanted to attempt to tackle several of the lines on the boulder. Munchkin was a little more hesitant than Daddy, but she did well for her first time out climbing in quite some time. She was happy to make it to the top of the boulder, but she wasn’t all that thrilled with needing to climbing back down. (I tend to agree that the trip down tends to be a bit more nerve-wracking.) Daddy had a blast trying different techniques…

Bouldering: Scratch-n-Sniff

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

D has been rock climbing pretty much since we first moved to this duty station. He has really enjoyed this new, challenging form of exercise. For Christmas, I gave him a crash pad that is used for bouldering. Today, we were able to head out to the park for him to try it out for the first time. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The breeze was a little cool, but it was the perfect day for climbing. Well, the sun may have been a little bright on some of the higher boulders. We had to hike back to the…

Exploring Joshua Tree National Park: Skull Rock

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

The girls were ready for some more rock climbing so we headed back to Joshua Tree National Park. We found a nice location where there was a picnic table in the shade for some of us to sit while others took off for a climbing adventure. It didn’t take long for D and the girls to disappear into the rocks and reappear high up on top of some of the formations. We ended up having to call them back as it was time to find a place for a picnic lunch. We found a nice table near the base of…

Visiting Joshua Tree National Park: Keys View

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

Our adventures with the family began on Monday when we headed over to Joshua Tree National Park. We decided that we’d check out Keys View during this particular trip. Of course, we made a few stops along the way to do a little exploration. The girls had fun climbing on both the rocks and trees which lead to plenty of photo opportunities. D had a blast leading the way. We had to periodically remind him that he had some littles that weren’t used to climbing and who didn’t have the right footware this time around. lol! It was quite warm…
