Accepting the Uncertainty of Military Life

Posted in Family, Military Life, and Photography

Over the past year, we’ve had a great deal of uncertainty enter our lives. With D having 2 back surgeries, we didn’t know if he’d recover enough to continue his career in the Marine Corps. The truth is, we’re still not completely certain where we stand with that as he’s still on limited duty and hasn’t fully recovered from the last back surgery. We were told we were heading to Japan as our next duty station, so we went through the process of getting ready for that only to have D denied (as expected) due to his medical situation. Now,…

Honor, Courage, Commitment: Memorial Day 2011

Posted in Military Life

Project 365 – #150 Today, we set aside a day to honor the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of our fallen military members.  Very few families have not been touched in some way by the wars that have been fought by our military.  Our nation was born from the sacrifices made by many men and women who believed in freedom and were willing to fight to make our country free. May we never forget these ultimate sacrifices or take our freedom for granted. May we continue to fight to keep our nation free.  Growing complacent sets us up for failure…. May…

Why Devildogwife?

Posted in Military Life

Several people have questioned why I would use the Devil in my name. I have to giggle a bit as I can see how it might be misconstrued for those outside the military. Here’s a brief history from Wikipedia encyclopedia. “During the course of World War I the Marines took over a village just northwest of Chateau-Thierry, France, Belleau Wood. The courtyard contained decorations of devildogs and was eventually utilized as the area headquarters. In the course of a three week battle, the Marines lost control and quickly regained the village from the Germans. As a result of the fierce…

Trip to Norfolk

Posted in Military Life, and Thoughts

Well, we headed down to Norfolk on Saturday to check things out. We had viewed a few houses that looked nice on the internet, so we thought we’d check out the area. Boy were we surprised by the neighborhoods. Many were quite scary, so we learned that we’re going to really need to be careful about where we buy. We also found that we’ll probably need to live a little further from the base in order to find something that we like that’s not crazy high in price (especially for what you’re actually getting). It is an old coastal community,…

Catching Up

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, Military Life, and Thoughts

Sadly, it’s been way too long since I’ve posted. We’ve been busy with different activities and unfortunately, some illness over the past month. November Highlights: November 4th was the Marine Corps Ball. Munchkin attended with us for the first time this year. It was wonderful watching the ceremony through the eyes of a child. The waitstaff was wonderful and made her feel like a princess. They brought her all of her own special food (even though that wasn’t part of what was “required” of them). All in all, it was a wonderful evening. You can see our picture on the…
