What do you do when you have your brand of sauces, but suddenly find yourself gluten free, so you can no longer enjoy your own sauces? Well, if you are like Tina and Michael Norlander, you take your well-loved sauces and create a gluten free line.

The Norlander’s understand the challenges of being gluten free, so they sought to create a delicious, safe version of their sauces. People who are gluten free can now enjoy their own version of the famous Norlander’s Original Teriyaki sauce as well as Mesquite sauce. (Yes, I said famous because the Norlander’s Original sauce was used to create jerky that went into space with N.A.S.A.!)

One of the unique things about the Norlander’s sauces are that they are in concentrate form. The sauce can be used straight out of the bottle for a strong, rich sauce, or it can be watered down for a nice marinade. One bottle of concentrate can be made into three bottles of marinade.

We started out our testing by using the Teriyaki sauce to make a chicken teriyaki stir fry. I am not normally one for Teriyaki, but the flavor is this Teriyaki was quite pleasant. The hint of sweet balanced well with the saltiness of the soy sauce.

Our next test was using the mesquite on a small chicken in the slow cooker. I basted the chicken with the mesquite marinade. The smokey flavor was mild, but delicious. I think I would use a slightly stronger marinade the next time around. Both flavors were a big hit around here.

I will be posting some recipes using Norlander’s Gluten Free sauces throughout gluten free month. The only negative with the sauces is that they do contain high fructose corn syrup which is something that we try to avoid. I do know that Norlander’s is working on changing up the formula in order to make it a more natural product.

The Norlander’s Gluten Free Teriyaki Sauce & Marinade and the Norlander’s Gluten Free Mesquite Sauce & Marinade can be purchased online for $7.99 each.

I am thrilled to announce that I will be giving away a set of the Norlander’s Gluten Free Sauces to one reader!

One thing that we have really missed after going gluten free was good tortilla shells. Most gluten free shells either taste bland, or they fall apart when you roll them.

Then, we experienced Sandwich Petals. These petal-shaped tortilla shells (flat-breads) are delicious. Not only are they delicious, but they are also healthy. They contain no gluten, no dairy, no nuts, no eggs, no wheat, no shellfish, and no soy.

These hearty shells are made from multiple gluten free whole grains, and pair well with both light and heavy ingredients. Sandwich Petals are shelf stable for 30 days. Just pop them in the microwave for 25-30 seconds to have a nice, flexible shell that does not break when you roll it.

When we received our first package of Sandwich Petals, I made a tuna salad wrap for Munchkin and a chicken salad wrap for myself. I gave Munchkin her wrap as I completed putting together my wrap. Next thing I hear is “Mmmmm… this is sooooo good!” After biting into my wrap, I had to agree. Over the next few days, we tried out the 3 different wraps: Agave Grain, Spinach Garlic, and Chimayo Red Chile.

Sandwich Petals Taco

D and I really enjoyed using the Chimayo Red Chile wraps for various Mexican dishes. Munchkin likes the Agave Grain the best. The Spinach Garlic is great for various chicken salad, egg salad, or tuna salad wraps. You can taste the unique flavor of each type of wrap, but the flavors are not overwhelming.

We knew these would quickly become a staple in our household. Sandwich Petals offers a great Buy One Get One Free special on Mondays in the online shop. The variety pack which contains 1 dozen petals of each flavor (36 total petals) is normally $25, but on Monday, you can receive 2 dozen petals of each flavor for the same price!

Now that our own purchased order has arrived, I will be creating more recipes for these delicious shells. Sandwich Petals has a fun weekly contest on their site. They encourage readers to submit their own original recipes using Sandwich Petals. Each week, they will pick the most creative recipe to win a free box of Sandwich Petals. Stop by and see some of the creative recipes for Sandwich Petals.

You can find my Gluten Free Soft Taco Recipe here.

I received a free sampler pack of Sandwich Petals for the purpose of doing this review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
