Thanksgiving: Staying Connected Across the Miles

Posted in Family, and Holidays

One of the difficult things about being a military family is that we’re often away from family for the holidays. It’s always nice when you can find a little ways to stay connected across the miles. Shortly before Thanksgiving, I was contacted by Shari’s Berries to see if I would like to share one of their cheesecake collections with someone as a way to show that I’m thankful for them. There was no obligation to write a review or blog post. I picked the fall collection of chocolate covered strawberries and cheesecake bites for both my family and my sister’s…

Painting Pottery with Grandma

Posted in Family

We had so much fun spending time with Grandma and Grandpa last week. We’re so thankful that we had the time together. We kept things pretty low key without a crazy schedule. One day, we headed over to the local pottery place to paint some pottery. Grandpa was our cheering section as we took our time painting our pieces. He took some pictures as well as shared our adventure with Munchkin’s cousin. We wish they could have been there as well, but it wasn’t possible this time. Last time they were out we had planned on coming here, but bad…

Back to Work

Morning. Crisp and clear. Hughes of yellow, orange, and purple. Emerging from the warmth and comfort of bed. Stretch and slide feet into soft, fuzzy slippers. The kettle is on the stove, and the dogs are munching on their food. Pjs. Carhartt jacket. Boots. Gloves. Time to feed the horses. Horses whinny. Coyotes howl and yip. Dogs bark and growl. Rooster crows. Birds sing. The moon fades into the morning light. The sun hides behind the mountain peaks. A new dawn. An old, yet new routine. Eggs sizzle in the pan. Coffee brews in the french press. Today, my husband…

Shoulder Surgery

Posted in Family, and Military Life

One week ago, I took D over to the military hospital to check in for his shoulder surgery. After filling out the paperwork, we were walked up the stairs to the waiting room. A little while later, he was called back to get prepared for the surgery. Once he was settled in and had lots of tubes and what not hooked up, I was called back. (I was told that I couldn’t be around when they did the initial prep.) Of course things didn’t start out very well when they put the IV in the wrong hand, so they had…

Looking Back at 2015

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

It’s hard to believe that we’re already in 2016. Yes, I typed it wrong and had to change the date as I’m still not used to typing 2016. **grin** It seems like we were just starting 2015 yesterday. 2015 was a crazy year for us, so I thought it would be fun to look back at pull out a picture from each month. It’s good to remember even as we look ahead a what 2016 may hold in store for us. January – New Year Begins with Snow Because we live in an area where snow is not a regular…
