Off-Grid Living on a Small Scale

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

One of the advantages to having a 5th wheel trailer is that we can go camping comfortably in almost any type of climate. Yes, it costs a bit more to get to places as we’re hauling a big trailer, but we also don’t have to be concerned with finding food we can eat or having a comfortable – bed. We just bring it with us. Here in the southern Arizona there are many spots where we can go dry camping for free. The only cost is however much it costs to run the generator or propane tanks (fridge and stove).…

Cave Creek Regional Park Wildlife

One of the things that Munchkin wanted to do for her birthday was go to the zoo or the aquarium. To do this, we could either head over to the San Diego area or over to the Phoenix area. We wanted to take a long weekend trip instead of just heading over for the day. Because we really enjoy camping at Cave Creek Regional Campground, we chose to head over to the Phoenix area from Thursday to Sunday. The trip had a bit of a rocky start as I got hit with a migraine on Wednesday evening after we finished…

Adventures in Puppyland: 1st Camping Trip

Our Bear loved camping from the first time that we took him out. He just loved being outdoors. As he got older, he preferred camping in the trailer over tent camping which is completely understandable. I mean sleeping on a bed is much easier on an older body than sleeping on the hard ground. As we said goodbye to our beloved pet in December, we also felt the grief of not being able to take him out camping one last time. When we rescued Wiley and then adopted Wyatt, we were hoping that they too would embrace our adventurous spirit. This past…

Project 365 – #115 D wanted to head out for one last dirt bike ride before his surgery.  It’s going to be at least 6 months before he can ride again.  Even then, he’ll have to be very careful and selective about the areas in which he rides.  Riding is relaxing for him, so he’ll definitely miss our weekend exploration trips. Munchkin really wanted to use these last few days to spend some quality time with Daddy.  She’s been wanting to go fishing with him for some time.  (Funny side note… We picked up a new tackle box for Munchkin…

The Great Shark Rescue

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #076 Last week, every day seemed to hold a new adventure.  Yes, we enjoyed walking the beaches and collecting various shells, but we also enjoyed being able to see rays, fish, and other sea creatures in the water.  A couple of mornings, we found sand dollars on the beach.  All of these things were fun, but our biggest adventure began with a simple walk on the beach…. Munchkin let out a squeal when she saw something on the beach.  She went running over and discovered that a shark had been beached when the tide went out.  At…
