A Visit from a Javelina

Posted in Homesteading, and Photography

While we were at the cabin, we had an unexpected visitor one day. This Javelina was walking around the garage while D was out there working. He came and got me. I grabbed my camera and headed outside while calling Munchkin to let her know that she needed to come out. I snapped a bunch of pictures while she walked around the yard near the house. Obviously, we kept the dogs inside the house during this process as we didn’t want a fight to ensue. “Havy” disappeared after some time, but it was fun seeing our first Javelina.

Flooding at the Homestead: Part 3

Now that our claim was actually being worked on, we started to see some things begin to happen. The water mediator showed up at the house. He was shocked to see that we had done the entire demolition as this had never happened to him. Basically, all he had to do at this point was to set up fans and dehumidifiers. He said it was the easiest job ever for him. He actually felt bad that we had done all of that work and that it had taken that long for the insurance company to send him out. It wasn’t…

Flooding at the Homestead: Part 2

While many people may have skipped making Thanksgiving dinner when faced with our crazy circumstances with the flooded cabin, I felt it was important to at least enjoy that part of our day. It also provided us with some good food to eat without having to stop to make up a full meal. Munchkin liked being able to grab food here and there as she got hungry. Since Munchkin wasn’t feeling well, she ended up keeping the dogs with her and resting most of the day. She also worked on the book that she was writing. Having the dogs with…

Flooding at the Homestead: Part 1

On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, we packed up the truck and headed up to the cabin for a relaxing long weekend. What happened was anything but relaxing…. When we arrived at the cabin, we could hear the fire alarms going off, but we couldn’t figure out why until we walked into the cabin. The entire back half of the cabin was flooded. The fire alarms had shorted out due to all of the water. We sprung into action. D turned off all the water in the house, and we started to sweep all the water out of the back of the…

My Birthday at the Homestead

Except for the sunset, these pictures were all taken prior to purchase of the cabin. The dogs were enjoying the cooler weather and the open spaces to run. Wiley quickly learned that if he listened and came when called that he didn’t have to be tied up or on a leash. His recall was wonderful. Wyatt, on the other hand, got so sidetracked by everything that he didn’t listen well. He found himself on leash a good bit of the time. We’re going to need to do some serious recall work with him so he can enjoy a bit more…
