Looking Back at 2019

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

I can’t believe we’re already in 2020. It seems like 2019 just started, and here we are in a new year. We had a crazy year filled with big events both good and bad. I had plans to be solid in my blogging, but I truly lost track of time as we tackled one thing after another. I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of the major events from this past year as we begin 2020. January found us starting the new year with snow. We were pretty excited to be enjoying the snow,…

Welcoming in the New Year with Snow

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

2019 is beginning with a beautiful wintery storm. I love seeing the light covering of snow as we look out over the homestead. It’s cold yet peaceful. The animals don’t mind as it isn’t a ton of snow. Phantom actually loves the snow. Dixie, on the other hand, would prefer to stay in the shelter. The other critters are good as long as the wind isn’t too crazy. It was our first snowfall of 2018. While Wiley and Wyatt have experienced snow, this was Wynoka’s first snow. I opened the back door, and she cautiously stepped out onto the porch. She sniffed at the cold white stuff. Then she flew down…

Homestead Happenings: Javelina Visit

Posted in Homesteading

Living on the homestead, I’ve seen a wide variety of animals, but I didn’t expect to see a family of Javelina eating my fermented chicken feed when I walked out the door to feed the chickens this morning. They just looked at me and meandered away into the brush. I wish I could have grabbed my regular camera, but I didn’t have much time to snap the shots. Javelina are not wild pigs even though they have that pig look to them. They are actually in the peccary family. They tend not to be aggressive unless they feel cornered or…

Life with Rescue Dogs

Life with rescue dogs is always an adventure. Their crazy antics are ever entertaining. There are moments that you want to get mad at them because they’ve done something bad, but their sweet puppy dog eyes mellow your anger and melt your heart. Even if you do get mad, you can’t stay that way very long as they wiggle their way back into your good graces. It doesn’t take long until you’re back to cuddling with them. Rescue dogs have a special way of pulling at your heartstrings. You know their past, and you want the best life for them…
