DIY Storage Containers from Recycled Materials

Posted in Homemaking, and Thrifty Ideas

My daughter decided that she needed some containers to store her things in. I didn’t want to spend any money, so I went to see what I had around the house. I found several oatmeal containers. While I knew that she’d be ok with plain storage containers, I thought it would be fun to create something a little fancier and fun. After locating some recycled wrapping paper, I cut circles out of the wrapping paper for the lids and rectangle strips to wrap the containers. I used double-sided tape to secure the wrapping paper around the storage container and to…

Sweet Potato Muffins

Posted in Homemaking

We use to get these delicious sweet potato muffins at my favorite seafood place when we were in NC. Well, being too far away to go there now, I wanted to find a recipe for something similar to these muffins. Ingredients: 1 1/2 C flour 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 C brown sugar…

Frozen Assets — Mashed Potatoes

I have mashed potatoes easily available at all times. Yum!! Loaded mashed potatoes also make a really great lunch for Little Song Bird and I. D, on the other hand, needs…

On Saturday, I was able to attend a Flyfest in Springfield, Va. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Have you ever heard of Flylady and the Dinner Diva? No, well head over to and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It was a great time of refreshing and learning for me. I enjoyed spending the day with a bunch of Christian women who were working on improving their lives. Talk about a positive environment. It was great. I came home feeling motivated and renewed. This was just a mini Flyfest. I hope to attend a full-scale Flyfest someday. I…
