2018 Word of the Year: Hope

Posted in Christian Life, and Family

Hope – such a simple word. Yet hope is anything but simple. It’s a powerful word, powerful idea. Hope has the ability to provide purpose and light in an otherwise dismal situation. 2017 wasn’t an easy year for my family, and 2018 hasn’t started off much better. When I began thinking about my word for this year, I kept coming back to both hope and faith. Over time, I knew that hope was my word for the year. I needed hope, and my hope was directly tied to my faith. For me, faith and hope go hand-in-hand. For God alone, O my soul,…

First Snowfall of 2018

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

When darkness fell on the homestead, the skies were crystal clear. Stars were shining brightly above. The air was crisp and a bitter wind blew all around. I heard a noise outside and went to check on the chickens. What I saw surprised me. The ground was blanketed with freshly fallen snow. Snowflakes fluttered all around me. It was our first snowfall of 2018. While Wiley and Wyatt have experienced snow, this was Wynoka’s first snow. I opened the back door, and she cautiously stepped out onto the porch. She sniffed at the cold white stuff. Then she flew down…

Wiley: Knee Injury Recovery Without Surgery Part 1

Posted in Family

The words that you don’t want to hear from your vet were spoken back in November. Your dog has a ccl (acl) tear in his right knee. I was in shock as I have never had a dog with a knee injury. Apparently, it’s becoming quite common for dogs of all sizes. The prognosis – expensive knee surgery. The vet went on to say that surgery was the only way that Wiley would heal. If we didn’t do surgery, he may eventually heal, but he’d have severe arthritis in that knee. He said that we could wait a little to…

A Look Back at 2017

2017 was an interesting year for our family. Loads of ups and downs as we maneuvered a variety of changes, challenges, and milestones in our lives. As I took the time to look over many of the things that happened this year, I was, once again, reminded of the Lord’s presence in both the good and bad times. Even though the negatives seemed to outweigh the positives while we were living through the trials, a glance back through the year allowed me to really reflect on the fact that we had many blessings in our lives this past year. In 2017,…

Adventures in Puppyland: Waynoka’s First Christmas

Posted in Family

Waynoka’s arrival has caused quite the stir around the homestead. She’s all puppy with her playful personality. She loves to cuddle, so we thought it would be a very loud, active Christmas. Instead, we were treated to a relaxing Christmas day as the pups all decided to take the day off from their loud play. Waynoka seemed to enjoy her first Christmas. At first, she wasn’t sure about straying from her normal routine, but she soon saw that it could be ok to do things a little differently every now and again. Each of the pups received a new treat…
