My New Dehydrator

Dehydrating Celery and Herbs

I was so excited when I was finally able to order a dehydrator as it’s something that I’ve been wanting for several years. Thanks to saving up Amazon gift cards (some from my Swagbucks* search as well as some that I’ve received for special occasions), I ordered the dehydrator a little over a week ago. Now, I could dehydrate the food that we couldn’t get to before it went bad. Yes, freezing works well for many foods, but the idea of being able to store food without the freezer and in a smaller space was definitely a draw for me.

This past week, I ordered Bountiful Baskets as usual. This time, I immediately started chopping up all of the celery as we had quite a bit left over from previous weeks. I ended up with 7 trays of chopped celery by the time that I finished. A day later, I have a little less than 2 jars of dried celery. Very cool! I also dried some herbs that I had received in the basket. Because of this, I tried everything at a very low temperature.

To say that I’m looking forward to really using this dehydrator would be a serious understatement. D thinks I’m funny, but at the same time, he understands how much I enjoy tools that make cooking and storing food easier. I have a feeling that I’m going to be taking advantage of bulk fruit/veggies purchases even more frequently now. 😉

What dehydrator did I end up getting? I ended up purchasing the Excalibur 3926TB* which has 9 trays and a timer. I would have loved to get the stainless steel version or the beautiful red version, but I couldn’t justify the additional cost.

Do you dehydrate food? What are your favorite foods to dehydrate? I’m looking forward to dehydrating fruits, veggies, and making fruit leather. Yum!
