Updates on the Cabin Part 4

Posted in Family, and Homesteading

French Doors to Master Bedroom
The T&G wall that I put up, and the french doors that D hung which still need to be stained/sealed. A new thermostat as well as the hat rack that we received for Christmas. It’s starting to look more like home.

After an enjoyable weekend with Grandma and Grandpa, Monday found us on our last day together. We had planned on heading out on Monday morning to do some fun things together and look for some items that we needed for the cabin, but one of the electricians showed up. Munchkin and Grandma settled down to play a game of Scrabble while we got a few things done. Later, as I prepared lunch, everyone else played board games as we waited for the electrician to wrap things up. (It turns out there were a lot of things that were done wrong and had to be corrected to get everything to work. It took some time to get it all up and working.)

After the electrician left, we headed out to pick up the flooring that had arrived at Lowes that day. Before we said goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa, we went out for some gluten free pizza which was a nice ending to the day. It was dark when we got back to the cabin, so we just unloaded the flooring and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Master Bedroom
I need to complete frosting the panes of glass on the master bathroom door. The drywall still needs to be mudded, sanded, and painted. You can see the T&G ceiling and new lights.

The next few days found us back at work as we had several things we wanted to accomplish before we headed back home. On the agenda was finishing up with hanging the drywall, getting the doors for the bedroom hung, putting up the pine T&G ceiling, hanging the ceiling fan/lights/fire alarm, and wrapping up some of the finishing details on the wall and doors. I also taped the drywall, but I wasn’t about to start mudding. Yes, I was definitely putting off doing that. While we had hoped to get the floor installed, it just wasn’t going to happen as we ran out of time.  There are only so many hours in the day, and we were wiped out!

Master Bedroom Ceiling
Our new ceiling fan and light found on a really good clearance at Lowes. We’re really pleased with the way the ceiling turned out. It still needs to be sealed, but other than that, it’s done.

On Friday, Munchkin helped the neighbor with her horses which she really enjoyed. She had planned on helping her again on Saturday, but our neighbor decided not to ask Munchkin to come over due to all of the rain. I have a feeling that Munchkin will be heading next door to help out whenever possible when we’re up there. 😉 We feel blessed to have a patient, caring neighbor who is willing to teach Munchkin about horses.

Rainbow

Sunday morning, we attended a local church that we had wanted to try out on several occasions. After church, we headed back to the cabin to finish cleaning up and packing. Before heading out, Munchkin and Daddy ran a couple of things over to our neighbor. As we were getting ready to head out, the rain briefly stopped, the clouds parted, and a beautiful rainbow appeared. Of course, I had to jump out and take a picture. Once we were on the road, a double rainbow appeared. Since I was driving, I wasn’t able to snap any shots of that one. I thought about the symbolism and the promise from the Lord as I took in it’s beauty.

There is still work to be done and more updates to be posted in the future, but that’s where we are right now. The cabin is finally coming together.
