Alto Pit: Riding the Trails

RZR and Dirt Bike on Trail

Last time we were at Alto Pit OHV Recreation Park, Munchkin and D were just learning to ride their dirt bikes, and I was driving the RZR for the very first time. We were novices, so the trails were a little intimidating. Since then, D sold his previous dirt bike as he wasn’t riding due to his back issues and surgery, and then recently purchased a new (to him) dirt bike that was street legal. Munchkin stopped riding her dirt bike much to Daddy’s dismay and started riding in the RZR with me. I have driven the RZR quite a bit over lots of different terrain.

Needless to say, when we hit the trails 2 years later, it was a completely different experience. That’s not to say that we weren’t in some extremely crazy situations which weren’t such a big deal for a dirt bike but were rather scary for someone (aka me) in the RZR. I won’t go into that part though as it was only a small (heart-pounding) portion of the trails.

D still has to take it easy when riding the dirt bike ’cause he’ll never be back to 100% of what he was like before his 2 back surgeries. He won’t be riding any motocross or doing jumps. lol! Riding the trails is challenging, but it’s relaxing (for him). I tend to go out on some of the trails not because it’s relaxing but because he needs someone to keep an eye on him ride with him.

I don’t mend the technical, challenging rides, but I don’t like areas were there is a steep drop-off on the side and rocks on the other side or even in the trail. I don’t mind going over obstacles and all of that as long as I don’t have to be concerned with being hurled into the crevice below if the steering wheel jerks out of my hand.

What I love the most about hitting the trails is the beauty around us. We can cover more ground and see more things than if we were just hiking. Although, hiking does afford you the ability to more thoroughly examine the landscape and wildlife around you which is why we like to do both. We like to periodically stop along the trail to hydrate and just look around.

I definitely feel blessed that we are able to take these short trips to connect as a family and just get refreshed. We try to plan our trips in a way that we don’t feel rushed which allows us to genuinely relax. Getting out in nature – in God’s creation helps with that.
