Project Maize & Blue: Tailgate Repair

Munchkin Truck

One of the first things we did when Munchkin got her truck was to strip out the inside. It was a painstaking job, but it will be worth it in the end.

Stripped Out Truck Interior

Once everything was removed from the interior, Munchkin painted on the Dupli-Color bed armor. She chose to do this instead of redoing the carpet. She felt it would be more durable and easier to keep clean.

Painting on Tough Liner

Daddy has been teaching Munchkin some of the finer points of stripping off paint and grinding off rough spots as they prepared the tailgate for the primer and first coat of paint.  Munchkin needed to see some color on the truck to stay motivated. The tailgate was the most obvious choice for the first transformation as it will be some time before the body is ready for any type of paint.  The tailgate didn’t need a lot of work done on it, so they decided to tackle that first.

Tailgate Prep

And we now reveal the color that will be on Munchkin’s truck. Daddy and daughter are not doing a show quality restore on this truck. It will still have some dents in it as it’s meant to be an every day driver/work truck. Munchkin was thrilled to finally see some color on her truck.

Painted Tailgate

Much of the work being done now does not come at a great monetary cost.  It just takes time, hard work – lots of hard work – and patience. Munchkin’s patience with the process comes and goes, but that is also part of the learning experience. Daddy is loving the opportunity to spend time with his girl doing something he truly enjoys.

Up next… interior.
